Chunhyangga is based on the classic story that is dealt with a love story of the different social classes during the Joseon dynasty. Yi Mongryeong, a son of a deputy delegate in Namwon, the current North Jeolla province, and Seong Chunhyang, a daughter of Wolmae who was a retired gisaeng (female entertainer), encountered at the Gwanghan Pavilion and became tender-hearted. As Yi's father's official terms in Namwon ended and they had to return to Seoul, the lovers also   had to depart, and he positively promised her to meet again. As a new official called Byeon saddo (busa) proceeded to his post, he became attracted by Chunhyang's personal beauty. When she rejected his force to serve him by speaking for serving but a single husband, she became in jail to death.

On the other hand, Yi Mongryeong passed a national exam in Seoul and became a royal emissary. He came down to Namwon to keep the promise he made to Chunhyang and dismissed Byeon busa from office for his corruption and greediness and then saved her. Finally Yi married her as his lawful wife.

The Sarangga from Chunhyangga is the scene that Yi Mongryeong was attracted by Chunhyang at a first sight at the Gwanghan Pavilion, and it is the scene that they were playing each other by carrying her his back

Arirang, one of the most popular Korean folk songs, has many local versions, and Jindo-Arirang is the only one that has been transmitted in the Jeolla provinces. It is the merriest and fluttering song among Arirangs. The lingering effect of a nasal sound that consists of non-syllables, 'eung-eung-eung', in the refrain is one of the most well known song phrasing among Koreans.

Jeokbyeokga was made of pansori based on Samgugjiyeonui, Chinese well known novel. Yubi, Gwanwu and Jangbi were sworn brothers and they built a state. They also made Gongmyeong, famed worrier, of a military general. When Jo Jo of the Wi nation invaded the Oh nation, Gongmyeong instigated the Oh nation and defeated the army led by Jo Jo at the Jeokbyeok River. Jo Jo managed to escape Hwayongdo, but he was captured by Gwanwu. Gwanwu after all sent Jo Jo back home in alive, as Jo Jo asked for his life.

This piece is to reconstruct the climax and tense scenes including from Jegal Gongmyeong praying for the wind for his favour to the great Jeokbyok war.

Simcheongga is a story about filial piety of Simcheong whose father was the blind. As soon as Simcheong was born, her mother was died, and her blind father begged her milk. When she was 15 years old, she was sold for 300 bags for rice offered to Buddha and fell into the Indang water. With the aid of heaven, she became a queen in the world. When she opened the fest for the blind, she met her father and then made her father's eyes opened.

This song is the scene that a funeral bier of her mother, Gwakssi, is leaving this world just after having delivered Simcheong.

Sungugga is a story of a wit rabbit who was nearly sacrificed at the expense of health of the Dragon King. When a Dragon King in the Water Palace became ill, he needed a liver of a rabbit to cure his illness. In order to lure the rabbit, a turtle came out to the land and brought the rabbit to the Palace. Being aware of his danger, the rabbit deceived the Dragon King with trick, saying that "he had left his liver to the land", so he was able to return to the land.

This song is to reconstruct the scene that the rabbit was deceived by the turtle coming from the Water Palace, and the latter was asked to take the former's liver as the King's medicine, the rabbit escaped from them with his wit.

Heungboga is the story about two brothers whose characters are completely different. There were two brothers lived in the Chungcheong, Jeolla and Gyeongsang areas: the elder one called Nolbu was rough and vice, whereas the younger one called Heungbo was a good man. Nolbu entirely took their parent's hereditary assets for himself and he forced to throw out his brother with his family.

Heungbo lived in a dugout mud hut and had no food to feed his family. Whenever he asked Nolbu for food, Nolbu bit him and driven out him. Heungbo tried to do everything for food, but there was nothing for him to work. One day in the spring a little swallow fell and had its leg broken. Heungbo fit its leg with cloth with sympathy. The swallow flew out saying 'thank him', and the following spring it gave one guard seed to him. Heungbo planted it and it had lots of guards by the autumn. When he spilt them, there were lots of valuable things came out, and he became very rich.

As Nolbu heard its story, he broke a little swallow's leg deliberately and he made it flow out. The following year the swallow brought a seed to him and he planted it. When Nolbu spilt guards, there were lots of bad things came out and his family went down. When Heungbo heard the story, he gave some of his fortune to Nolbu. Then Nolbu started to regret about his wrongdoing to his brother and became a good person, The brothers got well and lived peacefully.

This song is the scene of the swallow's journey to Heungbo's house that as he had cured its broken leg, the following year the swallow was returning to him with biting a guard seed in his mouth as repaying his kindness.

This piece is composed newly on the 12 stringed sanjo gayageum for solo. It contains the imagination that a rabbit is pounding a mortar on the moon when we used to imagine looking over the moon during a childhood. It gives a juvenile image of the full moon with cheerfulness expressed on the gayageum melody.

2006 KBS´º½º

"Jeong Kyeong-hwa has a little figure, but her voice is dynamic and grand. Moreover she is versatile not only in pansori, but in dance and an instrument playing. Pansori itself is well received as a great art in overseas, but changgeuk (music-drama) with acting also receives interest from the overseas audience as much as in pansori. Jeong Kyeong-hwa also played well a character of Chunhyang in 'Chunhyang', changgeuk, with her sori, acting and integrity."

An Suk-seon, Jungyomuhyeongmunajae (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) no. 23, Gyageum Byeongchang

"Jeong Kyeong-hwa was born to a good voice. She has an excellent seongeum, as she started learning a sori after her throat-seongeum was thick. Moreover her vocal sound is big and magnificent like a high mountain that is contrast with her tiny figure. She has a great capacity for performing pansori."

Seong Wu-hyang, Jungyomuhyeongmunajae (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) no. 5, Pansori Chunhynagga

"Jeong Kyeong-hwa learned the song-music-dance at her very early age and gained the title of 'a myeongchang of the next generation.' She showed her capacity and fame of myeonchang that was not easy to become such myeongchang in the Gyeongsang areas. When she performed the whole cycle of Jeokbyeokga with me, to be surprised she drew great attention to her own sori. I am certain that she will achieve our pride as pansori vocalists at the world stage."

Song Soon-seop, Jungyomuhyeongmunajae (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) no. 5, Pansori Jeokbyeokga

"Jeong Kyeong-hwa is a soriggun not only in her sori but neoreumsae or aniri that is to advantage in maturing her art."

Yi Yeong-tae, National Changgeukdan

"She is a soriggun who discloses her soul, and is a world-famous artist who was bestowed by heaven. She understands the way of communicating with others and with other kinds of music, so she may conquer the world with her musicianship and interaction."

Kim Hui-hyeon, Drum player

"She has really fun and full of energy, and challenge. Whenever I see her, I can see her bright future." Kim Yeong-ha, novelist

"To feel 'integrity' shown in her smile as a soriggun is authenticity that she was born with. During working with her, seeing her gratitude for herself and incessant laugh at herself, I found adapting myself to her 'integrity'. This is the power that Jeong Kyeong-hwa's sori possesses."

Hwang Ho-jun, composer

"Korean performing tradition is shining the light through her talent, inciting her phrasing that "pansori is playing, and stage is a space for playing." She always considers and studies it from the audience's view. She is responsible for the future of Korean music."
