● 곡 목 해 설
1. 인어공주 삽입곡 "Under The Sea" / 편곡 : 곽재영 Ron Clements 감독의 작품으로 이 곡은 영화에 삽입되어 각 대역들의 대화가 들어가 있는 곡으로 재미를 더한다. 이 연주는 25현 가야금의 합주로 이루어져 아기자기함을 가야금의 특색에 맞게 잘 표현한 곡이다.
2. "Moon River" / 편곡 : 김한아 1961년에 작곡한 henry mencini의 "Moon River"는 오스카상을 수상한 곡으로 '티파니에서 아침을'이란 영화에서 오드리 햅번이 불러 더욱 유명해졌다. 감미롭고 서정적인 선율과 노래의 주선율을 25현 가야금으로 아름답게 표현되었다.
3. "La compasita" / 편곡 : 곽재영 사람들에게 많이 알려진 대중적인 탱고곡으로 많은 영화의 삽입곡으로 쓰였다. 경쾌하면서도 사랑의 아픔까지 느껴지는 이 곡을 25현 가야금의 4성부로 나누어 더욱 화려한 느낌을 전한다.
4. Clarinet과 25현 가야금을 위한 중주곡 "새만금 살풀이"(초연) / 작곡 : 김삼곤 전북 부안에서 군산까지의 새만금 간척사업이 온 나라의 주목을 받고 있는 이유는 환경단체와 정부, 그리고 전라북도의 서로 다른 견해로 서로 양보하지 않는데 있지 않나 생각된다. 이러한 때에 원전 수거물 처리장 문제는 더욱더 깊은 상처를 드리우며 대치하고 있다. 이제 살풀이 춤이라도 추어 액맥이하고, 서로 갖고 있는 감정의 앙금을 덜어 내버리고 오손도손 살아갔으면 하는 바램이다.
5. Cello와 25현 가야금을 위한 중주곡 "5월 하늘"(초연) / 작곡 : 김선 남도에 먹구름이 내리우던 날 5월 하늘 광주에는 꽃비가 내린다. 무등산에 진달래가 물들던 날 5월 하늘 광주에는 두견새가 꽃잎을 토하고 있다. 금남로에 비바람 휘몰아 치던 날 5월 하늘 광주에는 꽃잎들이 흐드러지게 날리고 있다.
6. 25현 가야금 협주곡 "고고천변 ~ 가자 어서 가(수궁가 中에서)" / 편곡 : 박범훈 판소리 수궁가 중에서 별주부가 토끼를 구하러 세상 밖으로 나오는 대목과, 토끼가 용왕을 속이고 세상 밖으로 다시 살아 나올 때 고국 산천에 향수를 느끼는 내용의 곡이다. 박범훈에 의해 관현악과의 협연곡으로 편곡되었으나, 이번 CD에서는 25현 가야금과의 협연으로 연주했다. 고고천변 고고천변 일륜홍 부상의 둥둥 떠, 어룡은 잠자고 자규새 펄펄 날아든다, 동정여천에 파시추 금수추파가 여기라. 앞발로 벽파를 찍어 당기며 뒷발로 창랑을 탕탕, 요리저리 앙금 당실 떠 동정 칠백리 (간주) 사면을 바라보니 지광은 칠백리 파광은 천일색 천외 무상의 십이봉은 구름밖에 멀고, 해외소상은 일천리 안하에 경이라, 남문전 달 밝은데 오현금도 끊어지고, 남으로 둥둥 가는 저 배 조각달 무관수는 초회왕의 원혼이요. 천봉만학을 바라 봐, 만경대 구름속에 학선이 앉아 울어있고 물은 술렁 깊었난데, 국화는 점점 낙화는 동동 ,장송은 낙낙 펑퍼진 떡갈, 실능수 버들에 벚나무, 먼산은 암암 근산은 중중, 기암은 줏춤 뫼산이 울어, 천리 시내는 청산으로 돌고, 이 골물이 주루루루 저 골물이 콸콸 열의 열두 골물이 한데로 합수쳐, 천방져 지방져 월턱져 구부져 방울이 벅끔져서 건너 병풍석에다 아주 쾅쾅 마주 때리며 대하수중 내려 가느라고 어기야 어허기야 어기여차 떠나간다. 치어다 보느냐 만학은 천봉, 내려 굽어보니 백사지로구나, 허리 굽고 늙은 장송은 광풍을 못이기어, 우쭐 우쭐 춤을 추난데, 아니 놀지는 못하리라. 가자 어서 가 가자 어서 가, 가자 어서 가, 이수건너 백로가, (간주) 백로행과 함께 가, 소지노화 월일선, 초강어부가 부진배, 기경선자 간 연후, 공추월지 단단, 자래 등에다 저 반달 싣고, 우리 고향을 어서 가, 환산농명월 원해근산이 여기라, 이수를 돌고 돌아들어, 어주하던 강태공은 귀주로 돌아들고, 은린옥척 이 뿐이라, 벽계수변을 내려가니, 붉은 꽃 푸른 잎은, 산영행수를 그림허고, 나는 나비 우난 새, 춘광춘흥을 자랑헌다 (간주) 너울너울 진달화, 우질우질 계수들은, 날 보고 반긴다, 타향수궁에 갔던 벗님이, 고국산천이 반가워 (간주) 벽계수변을 내린 토끼, 깡짱 뛰어 내리며, 모르는 체로 가는구나. 7,8,9. 25현 가야금을 위한 협주곡 제2번 "축제"(초연) / 작곡 : 최재륜 전체 3장으로 구성된 이 곡은 25현 가야금 반주에 의한 25현 가야금 협주곡으로 제 1번 '향연'에 이은 그 두 번째 작품으로 광주가야금연주단 제 15회 연주회 위촉작이다. 이 곡은 축제라는 즐거운 분위기를 25현 가야금 협주곡으로 표현하였다. 제 1장은 〈너무 무겁지 않게〉4/4 = 90박자로 약간은 빠른 듯한 분위기의 전주로 시작되어 첫 번째 주제로 연결된다. 제 2장은 〈정아하게〉 6/4 = 60박자로 제 1장의 분위기와는 달리 solo 파트에 의해 주제가 정아하게 나타나며 이를 합주 파트가 이어 받으면서 진행한다. 제 3장은 〈힘있게〉 6/4 = 130박자로 아르페지오를 전주의 주된 요소로 사용하여 25현 가야금의 멋을 살려 보았다.

● NOTES FOR THE PROGRAMME
1. "Under the Sea" O. S. T. from The Mermaid princess 인어공주 This piece is composed by Ron Clements, a film director and is used for a film - The Mermaid princess. It adds more fun by inserted the conversations of each character in the film. This is rearranged for the 25 stringed gayageum ensemble that is suitable for a congenial atmosphere of its tone.
2. Moon River This famous tune is a Henry Mancini's work who composed for the title role of the film, Breakfast at Tiffany's, in 1961. In the film Audrey Hepburn sang it with a guitar and it became more famous. It won the Academy award. Its main theme in this fascinating melody is beautifully adapted for the 25 stringed gayageum.
3 La Comparsita This piece is one of the most popular tango repertories and is used in many films. In this version, it renders various moods ranging from liveliness to the pain of love, expressing a splendid feeling divided by four parts of the gayageum.
4 "Saemangeum Salpuri 새만금 살풀이 (Exorcism for Saemangeum)" (first performance) The land reclamation project for Saemangeum, stretching from Buan to Gunsan of Jeollabukdo, has been paid much attention to all the population. This situation derives from disagreements to the project among the Civil Organisation for Environment, government and the population in Jeollabukdo. Its worst matter was caused by the decision that Buan has been selected as the disposal location for radioactive wastes, and this led those parties to face the further opposite against each other. This piece is composed in the hope of reconciling such conflicts among them, through performing the Salpuri dance.
5. "Owol Haneul 5월 하늘 (The sky of the May day)" (first performance) The day when a black cloud is drawn down to the southern area A refreshing rain drops from the sky of the May day in Gwangju. The day when the azalea tinges the Mudeung Mountains with pink A cuckoo is spewing a petal in the sky of the May day in Gwangju. The day when the rain with wind flutters to Geumnamno Petals are flapping splendidly in the sky of the May day in Gwangju.
6. "Gogocheonbyeon ... gaja eoseo ga! 고고천변 ... 가자 어서 가 (The highest horizon ... Come on, let's go!)" from pansori Sugungga (Song of the Water Palace) This song that is one of the well known melodies in the pansori Sugungga expresses a nostalgia of the nature of the country. It is sung related to the two scenes of the story when (i) a turtle comes outside the world from the water in order to save the rabbit and (ii) the rabbit comes outside alive again after deceiving the Dragon king. In this CD the 25 stringed gayageums play it as a concerto that Park Beom-hun originally rearranged for an orchestra work. * The 25 Stringed Gayageum Concerto No. 2 "Chukje 축제 (The Ceremony)" (first performance) This concerto for a 25 stringed gayageum consists of three movements, and is accompanied by this ensemble players. This is the second concerto that is commissioned by the Gwangju Gayageum Ensemble for its 15th performance followed by the first concerto call 'Hyangyeon 향연 (The Banquet)'. It expresses a gay and festive atmosphere.
7. The 1st movement (not too grave) - 4/4 = 90 beats It starts the introduction with slightly a fast mood and then links to the first theme.
8 The 2nd movement (with elegance) - 6/4 = 60 beats In contrast to the first movement, the theme of the solo part appears gracefully, and soon the tutti part proceeds it followed by the solo part.
9 The 3rd movement (with vigour) - 6/4 = 130 beats Arpeggio is mainly used for the introduction and made a taste of the gayageums come to life with it.
