¡á Making Christmas Carols into a Korean Sound
A little cart carried a bell lets people know the birth of a baby Jesus, In a silent night and holy night, eumme eumme... Let's go without hesitation with loading a full of the bell cards, ttalang ttalang... Accompanying sounds of a gayageum, daegeum, guitar and janggu jangdan Let all us worship the birth of the baby Jesus. Look at outside the window, the whole world becomes a silver world with a white snow .... Bells announcing the Jesus birth are ringing sounds of ttaeng ttaeng in every church... For a king of all the people who took his golden crown off and for the poor who got tired with hunger, the baby Jesus came into a stable. Decorating every thing of cow bells, golden bells, silver bells For a happy Christmas with a family and relative together...
We tried to exercise fully our Korean tastes and to compile with a newly composed carols, including newly made bell cards and representative Christmas carols. I wish you a happy and wonderful Christmas with this CD.

Lee Byeong Wook (composer, arranger, guitar)
He was born in Seosan, Chungcheong Namdo, situated in the middle part of Korea. He studied composition and music as the BA and MA degree at Chung'ang University. Then he read these subjects further at Karlsruhe National University and there his own ensemble work was presented to perform during Tonkunstler Fest held in Baden-wurttemberg between 1986-1987.
His purpose of composition aims at "popularising", "modernising" and "internalising" Korean traditional music by recreating new music based on traditional material. This idea is proved to achieve in his foundation of ensemble 'Eoullim' that has been performed for more than 10 years. He is also interested in synthesising religious music with Korean one, thus making non-Korean religious musics to Koreanise. To achieve this he founded and conducted the Orchestra for Catholic-Korean music called "Thomas Aquinas Orchestra" (leader: Rev. Kim Jong-guk). Having composed many religious musics focused on Mass, Meditation for the Orchestra, this led to release CDs of his own works supported by the Society of Catholic-Korean Music. In particular, the work 'Dew of the Desert' that portrayed the martyr, Kim Dae-geon, was staged as a theatre drama and then performed as a dance music for the celebration of his 50th martyrdom anniversary. Since then he composed the story of the martyr as! a new opera entitled as 'Solmoi ¼Ö¸þ - Saint Andrew Kim' under the commission of the 10th Special Performance of Chungcheong Opera Company (director: Yang Gi-cheol) and performed it on the link of Catholic Theatre Drama Performing Ceremony. The opera received a wave of emotional responses from the audience. On the basis of positive critics and response to this opera, Yi Byeong-wuk intends to continue to modify and develop it into Pan-pera 'Solmoi' that combines with Pansori (Korean narrative song) and make it an international art work. He also composed "Geobalhwan", a fusion musical drama.
The result of his passion and affection in search for "Korean Sori (sound)" led to release more than 30 CDs including a wide range of his own compositions called "Eoullim (lit. harmonising)", "Saeroum (lit. Newness)", "Music for Meditation", "Drama music", "Dance music", "Religious music", and so forth. He had composed such pieces as the Han River Celebration and the Olympic Torch Sending-off for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Ceremony.
He was awarded many prizes in a number of competitions and they are as follows: prize in the Orchestra Part of the 19th Seoul Music Festival; the Grand Prizes both in the 10th Korean Music Composition in 1990 and in the Contest of the 26th the KBS Gugak Composition in 1992; the 26th Baegsang Arts and Music Award in 1990; the Korean Gwanak (brass music) Composition in 1994. He is currently a music professor at Seowon University and a chairman for the Association of the Composers based on Chungbuk area. He is charge of two ensembles - "Eoullim", "Dungji" and runs "Marisorigol" that embodies a heart of Korean traditional music.
